rose bushes

The snow has finally melted, and temperatures are slowly on the upswing.

Victoria Day Long Weekend is upon us, and for some that means yard work is also in the forecast. Lawn and Garden Journal Host Duayne Friesen    says this is the best time of year to get some pruning done on your rose bushes. He explains, rose will only grow on the current seasons growth so pruning them down to help grown new branches will mean more blooms.

Friesen adds, you want to decrease them to about a foot high, with about 5 or 6 main branches which are thicker than a pencil.

New law this season will cause some difficulty when it comes to keeping weeds at bay in your yard as typical weed control sprays are no longer available. Friesen says it will take diligence on the part of the yard owner, to keep on top of pulling these weeds before they get out of control.
