After being involved with municipal politics for 38 years, Ed Anderson, mayor for Boissvain-Morton, resigned late last year from the spotlight. His farewell prompted a speech from a Manitoba MP.

Larry Maguire, MP for Brandon-Souris, gave a members statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday to recognize the legacy and accomplishments of Anderson.

"I want to thank Ed for his incredible commitment to the people of Boissevain. The town is certainly better off than it was 38 years ago, and that is a tribute to his leadership," Maguire said.

Anderson was first elected to town council in 1980 and later became mayor in 1984.

Under his watch, his respective community had built a new water plant, firehall, library, theatre, and recycling building, and attracted two new veterinarians to the area. Boissevain-Morton was also the recipient of multiple Communities in Bloom awards, including on the international level.
