Providence University/College and Steinbach Bible College will now be included in the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary initiative. Under the program, the provincial government provides money to post-secondary schools, which in turn give it directly to students. Dr. David Johnson, President of Providence University/College, says that's great news.

"It shows, first of all, that the province is taking our school seriously and we're happy about that. It's a scholarship/bursary fund that will come to us, $25,000, that will be matched by our own fundraising 2-1, so it provides $75,000 in total funding for our students."

Rob Reimer, President of Steinbach Bible College, says they will also receive $25,000.

"We're very excited about it. It's going to be a big win for our students as it'll give them more funding for them to continue on with education. We see it as a real positive for us."

Reimer says the $25,000 will allow them to issue up to 25 additional scholarships while Johnson says they are looking at an additional 15-20 scholarships. Johnson adds, many students require assistance to be able to attend post-secondary school.

"About 30-40% of our students would not come without some kind of scholarship help."
