Despite some significant rainfall earlier this month many producers in southwestern Manitoba are back out seeding.

Some parts of the region picked up as much as 125 millimeters of rain.

Rick Tilbury farms in the Melita area and he's been back out seeding for a couple of days now. “It was pretty wet but it is amazing how things have come around and we've been able to get started again this past weekend.”

Tilbury says the past few growing seasons have been a challenge with rain events or flooding. He says most of his crops that were already in the ground this year prior to the big rainfall appear to be doing okay.

“I didn't see too much frost damage on any of the canola that was up. The rain drowned out a few acres but considering the amount of rain it wasn't too bad really” said Tilbury.

He is hoping for a run of dry weather so he can complete his seeding. Here in the southwest seeding is about 90 percent done.

“I have about a third of crop left to seed.”
