The community of Sidney's moving forward with upgrades to its Community Centre. Municipality of North Norfolk Mayor Neil Christoffersen commends the Centre's committee for taking the initiative to improve the structure.

"We're really pleased to see the upgrades taking place at the Sidney Community Centre," says Christoffersen. "It's a beautiful building. The reason these upgrades are being made, other than it's just time to make some, is that it was the place where the Sidney (Breath of Life) Church was regularly meeting and now they have their own building."

He says the committee hopes to rent the building for more organizations and functions. Christoffersen adds quotations have been gathered for windows and painting, and work will be done both inside and outside.

Christoffersen explains the committee asked the council for help, noting council always has some funds set aside for reserve, capital, replacement and upgrades. About $2,500 to $3,000 reserve funds will be given to assist in the work. Upgrades allow for more rental opportunities, as well as making the building more secure for long-term benefits.

He adds it's a constant pleasure to see this kind of volunteerism throughout the municipality.
