A wet long weekend is in store for southern Manitoba.

After more than an inch of rain fell Thursday in Steinbach, Terri Laing with Environment Canada says we could see that same amount Saturday and Sunday.

"You should be seeing more on the way and hopefully not one of those big heavy imbedded showers where you get twenty-five millimetres in an hour," she says. "But be on the lookout for more rain."

According to Laing, Friday will likely see the best weather between now and Tuesday. There is a low pressure system approaching from the northern tier of the United States which will spread cloud and rain showers for Saturday and Sunday.

Laing says behind this weather system is a big ridge of high pressure from the arctic which will usher in sunshine but much colder temperatures. In fact, for all those who had been hoping to plant the garden this weekend, Laing says there is frost in the forecast for Sunday night.

The normal high for this time of year is 21 degrees. Laing says by Wednesday of next week we should see a return to those temperatures.

For all of those planning to go camping this weekend, Laing encourages people to watch the forecast and stay safe.
