A corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces has been convicted convicted of assaulting another soldier has now been sentenced.

Corporal Reid Gobin was convicted of assault Monday during a standing court martial at C-F-B Shilo. He was originally accused of sexual assault, but the military judge said she wasn't convinced the attack was sexual in nature and found him guilty of the lesser charge of assault.

Gobin was sentenced to a reprimand and a $1,500 fine.

The reprimand will stay on Gobin's record and that could impact his career progression.
