The town of Reston has started opening up their summer facilities – beginning with their beach and campground.

EDO for the RM of Pipestone, Tanis Chalmers, says Reston has a number of water recreation facilities, but are still waiting on the province to determine if and when the spray park can be open to the public.

“Currently the campground and the beach are open,” explains Chalmers. “We do ask people to use social distancing and follow the government regulations that are in place.  The bathrooms are open for that.”

“The spray park is closed until further notice and until we can get further approval from the province.  But the campground and the lake are open as of now.”

Chalmers believes more people will be travelling within the province rather than driving to other provinces for recreation and holiday time due to pandemic restrictions and just being cautious all around.

“I think we’re going to see a lot more in-province travel this year, more so than people heading out of province. So that could actually create an increase in our visitation.  We are seeing people already starting to book for the weekends and weeks during the summer at our campground.”

“As well,” she adds, “we are going to be offering swimming lessons again this year in August.  So, there are people who come to camp during that time as well.”
