It appears the first week of July will be good and warm in southern Manitoba. Climatologist David Phillips at Environment Canada says temperatures will be rising this week.

"The smoke from Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan fires today is going to clear out tonight. This week we could see some of the highest temperatures you have seen all summer with 28, 29,30."

He says their computer forecast models continue to show southern Manitoba can expect a hot, and fairly dry July and August. Phillips adds, southern Manitoba has been fortunate, so far, to get near normal amounts of rain whereas the west has had too little and the east has had too much. He says we should be thankful.

"It's good growing weather, it's good vacation weather and, certainly, we've seen it (the heat) in the far west, it's moving toward you, it's going to take over. Unfortunately, here in the east, we're still in this kind of a coolish situation. The best weather, when I look at, not too extreme, seems to be in southern Manitoba.
