Farmers in the southwest portion of the province are assessing the damage after heavy thunderstorms ravaged the area over the weekend.

Killarney-area farmer Myron Peters took some time to survey some of the damage.

“We went for a little drive with the family on Sunday, and it's real sad to see some of the crops are completely wiped out,” he said. “There's some soybeans close to the Dunrea area that there's nothing left but sticks.”

Peters adds there is also a lot of water lying around in the fields.

He notes with the wet conditions, many farmers are trying to determine whether or not its cost effective to apply fungicide using spray planes.
