The Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone has given final reading to its budget. Mayor David Single outlines how it'll affect residents in the region.

"Taxes are going up," notes Single. "Unfortunately it's hard to say how everybody's is affected, because of changes in assessments. It's up and down an awful lot. My assessment went up way more than the average. Some people will see very little increases, but the majority will see increases of ten percent and higher."

He says the municipality is purchasing two new graders as well as other equipment, and that's the largest reason for the tax increase. Aside from costs from the general fund, there's also other substantial projects slated this year, including a rural waterline expansion. That will cost about $3-million.

"We're buying two new graders, and some other things, too. So, that's really the biggest reason why taxes are going up. We are doing substantial things this year. Rural waterline expansion to the tune of close to $3-million dollars. None of that is coming out of the general funds."
