There appears to be lots of interest in a program aimed at celebrating the work of volunteers in the Riding of Brandon-Souris.

In celebration of our country’s 150th anniversary, MP Larry Maguire last month  unveiled the Canada 150 Service Medallion – a commemoration coin in recognition of Brandon-Souris volunteers who have made outstanding contributions in their community.

“So far response has been great and we will have more nominations than awards that will be presented.”

The nominations for this award are for deserving individuals who, through their volunteerism, have enriched the lives of others and have made a lasting impact in their community.

Maguire launched the Canada 150 Service Medallion in response to the government breaking tradition and cancelling the practice of issuing a commemorative medal to mark important anniversaries.

“We have lots of great people and I encourage people whether involved with church groups, sports or community events or any other aspect of community involvement to apply” said Maguire.

I firmly believe that Westman volunteers should be recognized for their efforts, and the Canada 150 Service Medallion provides the perfect way to do just that.
