The Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization (WADO) Field Day will be held today from noon to 4pm, starting with the noon meal.

Diversification Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Scott Chalmers, says he is expecting a good turnout today at noon to the research plots.

Chalmers adds they will be looking closely at a number of trials throughout the tour, including flax agronomy, hemp plots, inter-cropping trials, fertilizer trials and growth regulator trials.

There has been a significant amount of rainfall this summer that has affected the various crops in different ways. Scott speaks to the saturation levels of the soil, advising farmers to scout their fields often.

The Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization (WADO) Field Day will be held today from Noon to 4pm.  It is located 2 miles west of Melita on Hwy #445, and 1 mile south on 158 W. (OR 1.5 miles North of Patterson Grain on Hwy #83.)

Call the Melita Ag Office at 204-523-3256 for more information. If interested, Scott says all are welcome to attend, but be prepared for a warm day with a hat and sunscreen.  Lunch will be served at noon before the actual tour.

Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization (WADO) was established in the early 1990’s (originally as the Souris Valley Irrigation Centre) in Melita and serves the SW part of Manitoba. The centre’s goal is to help farmers and rural communities excel through a wide range of value-added diversification, research and demonstration projects. The centre also facilitates and sponsors’ many extension events held across Manitoba in conjunction with others directly involved with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. (MAFRD)
