A couple of groups in Western Manitoba are being recognized for the work their volunteers did in 2018.

Each year, Recreation Connections Manitoba* recognizes the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups and communities who have shown leadership and innovation in advancing the recreation sector.

Here are the award winners that will be honoured later this month.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT

The President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement recognizes a recreation professional or group of professionals who have made a substantial contribution through a regional or provincial recreation project, initiative, program or event.

WESTMAN PHYSICAL LITERACY COMMITTEE

The Westman Physical Literacy (WPL) Committee works with the common purpose to provide an avenue for interested partners to work together to promote, implement and evaluate programs, services, amenities and policy which increases the physical literacy of Westman children aged 0-12. Since the Committee was formed in fall 2015 they have completed a number of projects related to their purpose and objectives including resource development and distribution sharing of existing resources, two education/awareness; physical literacy challenges and demonstrations; site visits and presentations; and programming support. The Committee has also increased the capacity in rural communities in Westman by providing physical literacy-training workshops, impacting over 15 communities within the region.

AWARD OF MERIT

The Award of Merit will recognize a community group, organization or municipality for excellence and innovation in the provision of recreation, therapeutic recreation and/or parks programs and services at the community level.

GLENBORO 55+ GAMES COMMITTEE

The Glenboro 55 Plus Games Committee was created to host the 2018 55+ Manitoba Games multi-sport competition in the communities of Glenboro, Carberry, and Wawanesa. The Glenboro Games Committee was able to host a very successful Games, achieving one of the highest profits in Games history. With a population of 650 people, the Town of Glenboro faced many logistical challenges when hosting the 850 Games participants. A strong community-wide effort enabled the committee to overcome barriers regarding accommodations, food, and venues.

Recipients will receive their award at the 2019 President’s Luncheon & Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, February 20th, 2019. Join RCM in celebrating the effort, commitment and achievements of the 2018 award recipients!
