A Killarney woman has been reunited with one of her most precious possessions.

Brenda Shiels lost the wedding band of her late husband, a keepsake she's been wearing ever since he passed way four years ago, while attending Manitou's Honey Garlic and Maple Syrup festival September 10.

"I just felt sick to my stomach, it was all I had left of my husband," Shiels says. "I didn't think I would ever see it again... I was very sad."

Shiels had contacted organizer Laura Greenfield from the festival inquiring about the ring before Greenfield put out a call on Facebook.

"I'm going to give this a shot," Greenfield wrote. "If you attended the Manitou Honey, Garlic and Maple Syrup festival, you know that there is a lot of ground to cover. Unfortunately there was a man's wedding band lost and I am hoping that if everyone shares this, perhaps someone has picked it up and this will lead them to the hurting owner. If anyone has any information please private message me and I will get you in contact with the empty finger. Thank you."

After weeks of no replies, Shiels had almost lost hope. But last Saturday Greenfield heard from a young man from Manitou, Christian Mckay had found a ring during the festival. They quickly sent Shiels a photo through social media photo to confirm it was the same ring.

"I said, "It is my ring, I can't believe it,"" Shiels says.

On September 27, serendipitously the four year anniversary of the passing of Brenda's husband, Christian himself placed the ring back on her finger.

"He was just the sweetest little guy," Shiels says. "He put it on my finger and said to his mom, "she's not going to hug me is she?" And I wanted to hug him but I promised I wouldn't. But he did sit on my knee at the end of the afternoon... He'll always be special to me."

She says the whole experience was surreal, noting many times lost rings are never found.

"I'm going to be very careful with it from now on," she says.
