Elections Manitoba is trying to get the word out to people who may not be in the province when it comes time to vote. Alison Mitchell with Elections Manitoba says they have ways to assist those voters who are travelling, working, or studying away from home.

"One is to apply to be an absentee voter. So, that's for people who will be away during advanced voting and on election day when there just won't be an opportunity to vote while you're in the province. And those people are encouraged to apply to be absentee voters. We have an application form online."

Absentee voters will get a ballot kit with all the information for their constituency.

The deadline to apply is April 16th, but to ensure the kit is delivered with enough time to return it, Mitchell advises applicants to apply before April 9th.

If you do have time before you leave, Mitchell says there's another option.

"We strongly encourage them to take advantage of advanced voting because it's really very convenient. Advanced voting goes from April 9th to 16th and in Manitoba you can vote at any advanced location in the province."

Mitchell adds, "Even if they've already left the province they can still apply. They can do it by visiting our website, or they can even have someone in the city or somewhere in their home electoral division make the application for them."
