Peter T Doerksen
February 25, 1929 – April 21, 2024
On April 21, 2024, Peter T Doerksen went to his eternal home to be with his Lord.
Peter Doerksen was born on February 25, 1929 to Maria (Thiessen) and Jacob G. Doerksen in Plum Coulee, MB. He was baptized on the confession of his faith at Plum Coulee Mennonite Church in 1950 and he married Justina Wall that same year. The following year they moved to Winnipeg and became members of the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. Later, they transferred to Home Street Mennonite and then to the Good News Mennonite Chucrh on Ness Avenue. Peter and Justina served as deacons for many years.
Peter was a talented craftsman, furnishing many homes, churches, hotels, and buildings. He could build or fix anything that he could imagine. When he was 12 years old, he stared with making toys. As an adult, Peter continued his trade and established his business, Doerksen and Gronau, which was in operation for just over 25 years. When D&G went into receivership, he went to work for Schmidtke Millwork in Steinbach for a short time. The he started another company Giesbrecht & Doerksen with Peter Giesbrecht. Peter retired at age 70. Peter and Tina had three daughters – Linda, Debra/Rowan, and Christine. Peter loved to spend time with his family at the cottage in Kenora, ON, which he built with his family. Peter passed away at Bethesda Hospital on April 21, 2024.
Peter was a loving father, devoted husband, and he loved the Lord. His trust in Jesus brought him contentment amid joy and hardship alike. Peter always had a smile showing his deep joy when he spoke about God. Peter had a servant heart and served in many ways including Meals on Wheels, church ministry, and helping his neighbours on Blueberry Bay.
Peter Doerksen was predeceased by his loving wife, Justina (Wall) Doerksen. He leaves behind his daughters, Linda (Nik), Debra/Rowan, and Christine; his grandchildren Jeremy (Jenni), Tina (Kyle), Rebecca (Cohle); and his great-granddchildren Micah, Peter/Ridd, Njiva, Levi, Connor, Judah, and Henry.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 26th, at 7 pm, and a funeral service on Saturday April 27th at 10 am; both at Green Acres Funeral Home. A livestream of the funeral service will also be available at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/89617
