Rob Ramage and Kerry Burtnyk - they’re the answer to the trivia question – who were the two skips who met in the final the last time the Provincial Men’s Curling Championship was held in Winnipeg?

The year was 1995, the place was the Winnipeg Arena, and the final featured a two-time provincial champion who won the 1981 Brier against a team from small town Manitoba that being Baldur – population around 350. You may think this should have been a mismatch of huge proportions; but this is curling. You throw eight rocks up and eight rocks back and as long as you have the last rock of the end, you always have a chance. Rob Ramage, Grant Shewfelt, Doug Roeges and Mike Johnson had a chance that Sunday afternoon at the Old Barn on Maroons Road.

CJRB Sports Director Clayton Dreger asked Rob Ramage to reminisce about the 1995 Tankard at the Winnipeg Arena.

The history book shows that Kerry Burtnyk, Jeff Ryan, Rob Meakin and Keith Fenton won the 1995 Tankard as well as the Brier in Halifax and the World Championship in Brandon. Burtnyk would eventually add three more provincial titles to this resume. As for Rob Ramage, it took 15 years but he finally got a second chance to play in a provincial final. The 2010 Manitoba senior men’s champion hails from Baldur and Rob Ramage will be looking to defend his title later this month at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg.
