Banana Days is returning to Melita's summer line up of activities - taking place the first weekend in August.

Committee member, Alexis Teetaert, says this is the 11th year for their annual event, starting with a parade on Friday evening with a new addition, "BOO in the Park!" where kids can dress up like during Halloween in August. The evening starts at 5 for their Family Fun Festival with all sorts of different activities as well as live entertainment.

Free banana splits are the highlights for many - taking place on Saturday!  And Sunday's pancake breakfast is another favorite of the weekend.

Teetaert says its fantastic to be back again this year.  "We're really excited to have it come back!  We were a little nervous and were planning it a little smaller than we normally would have because we just weren't sure what the turnout would be, but as we got closer to the date and got more excited about it we just kept adding to things.  From what we're hearing everyone is looking forward to it.  So, we're really excited!"

Volunteer help is crucial to pulling off a weekend of events like this and Teetaert says they could still use a few extra hands.

"I generally do most of the recruiting for volunteers.  We're still looking for a few but for the most part, I think we'll be okay.  Our festival relies heavily on volunteers, always has.  In the past number of years we've gotten bigger so we've had anywhere from 50 to around 90 volunteers, and everyone is always pretty gung-ho about giving their time because its such a great thing to have in town!"

Melita's Banana Days will be held this year, from August 5-7th.
