Members of the Brandon Police Service will be knocking on a few doors in the coming days conducting a survey of residents along the Assiniboine River. The survey is part of the service's precautionary flood evacuation planning to gather information that will help the members efficiently do their jobs in the event that those areas undergo mandatory flood evacuation.

Staff Sergeant Larry Yanick says they want to find out how many residents are living in the area, how many pets there are or if there are any residents who will need special transportation arrangements if an evacuation did take place.

Sgt. Yanick adds the two areas officers will be focusing on are both the north and south sides of the Assiniboine River in Brandon's north end. He notes they have identified 866 businesses and residents in that area including multi-dwelling homes such as apartments or basement suites.

Sgt. Yanick says members will be sweeping the area several times, visiting homes and businesses they've missed up to three times. He notes after that they will just leave the information in the mailbox with a contact number the resident can call and leave the necessary details.
