The Boissevain-Morton-Whitewater (BMW) Growing Project is looking for teams to enter a combine pulling contest set for late June in Boissevain.

The last combine pull happened three years ago and now the BMW Growing Project committee is organizing its return. It will be held in conjunction with the Boissevain Fair.

Audrey Paschke is a volunteer with the BMW group and she hopes lot of people step forward to join a team and pick up the rope. “The last one was held in 2019 and then we got shut down because of covid and we haven’t been able to do anything over the past couple of years.”

“We plan to go the weekend of June 25 and 26 during the fair in Boissevain. The Sunday is when we will pull and we’re looking for teams of all ages to take part. We’re also looking for super strong people to pull a tractor of some size on their own.”

The teams will be made of up 10 people and must have at least two female competitors.

“Our goal is to turn this into some sort of fund raiser but we’re still working on that. If nothing else it will raise awareness of the growing project.”

Audrey Paschke knows first hand the challenge of pulling the combine. She’s competed in combine pulls in Morden for several years. “It feel going up to the combine it will be hard and as soon as you grab the rope and start to pull you are astounded how heavy it is. Once you get going there is momentum and it keeps you going.”
