She's one of the most decorated Canadian Paralympians competing today. Former Winnipegger, now British Columbian and MLA, Michelle Stilwell is taking her wheelchair back to the track next week for the 2015 ParaPan Am Games in Toronto.

The current world record holder in the 100 meters is leaving for Toronto tomorrow, and is joined the Morning Show Friday to talk about the Games, her goals, and the drive to compete at an elite level.

Michelle has won a total of four golds and one silver at Previous Paralympic Games, and nearly a dozen World Championship golds and silvers in various events, but this is first ParaPan Am games... making it even sweeter? It's on home soil!

We asked how she's been able to balance the demands of being an elected official with the need to train in order to remain an elite athlete.

Michelle has achieved the highest honours in her sport winning gold at the Paralympics, so I asked her about the continued desire to compete at the highest level keeping in mind her participation in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Paralympics amongst many World Championships.

She will be competing in the 100M and 800M races at the Games.

Michelle's connection to Southern Manitoba goes beyond growing up in Winnipeg. She has family in Altona, and will be visiting them on her way back to B.C. After the 2015 Parapan Am Games... hopefully with a couple of more gold medals around her neck.

Good luck!
