Golden West Radio stations in Manitoba have now implemented Canada's new national emergency alert system.

It is called "Alert Ready" and is designed to benefit Canadians by notifying them immediately to potentially life-threatening events.

The investment that has been made in purchasing and installing the new alerting equipment is part of Golden West's commitment to the health and well-being of everyone in the various markets its serves and in keeping families and communities safe.

It gives broadcasters the ability to break into programming at any time to deliver an alert, faster, enabling listeners to take action and stay safe.

So, when you hear following tone on one of our local radio stations, it will be time to react.

All alerts will also include instructions as to what the public should be doing.

Only alerts that represent an imminent or unexpected threat to life will be broadcast based on a criteria developed by government officials.

The list includes a broad range of events such as tornados, floods, biohazards and wild fires.
