KILLARNEY WELCOMES THE 43RD ANNUAL WESTMAN JURIED ART SHOW AND TRAVELLING GALLERY KILLARNEY – Media Release

On Friday, April 29, artwork from around the Westman region will begin to appear at the Royal Canadian Legion #25 in Killarney, waiting to be critiqued by professional jurors as part of the 43rd Westman Juried Art Show.

“We are honoured to have been chosen to host this year’s juried art show”, said Jane Ireland, Arts Administrator for the Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council and the Heritage Home for the Arts.  “It is a wonderful opportunity to see the work of new, emerging and established artists from our region.”

The show, hosted by the Arts West Council and the Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council, invites artists residing in the Westman region to submit their original hand-made works of art , completed within the last year, to be reviewed and critiques provided by professional jurors, Janet Shaw-Russell and Barb Flemington.

“This is a chance for artists to receive meaningful feedback about their work from professional jurors”, said Chris Moore, Coordinator for Arts West Council.

“It is also a chance for some of the artists to have their work tour throughout the Westman Region in our Travelling Gallery.”

The Travelling Gallery is composed of 20 works chosen by the jurors from the Juried Art Show. The works will then tour communities in the Westman Region over the following year.

The Juried Art Show is open to the public for viewing at the Royal Canadian Legion #25 on Sunday, May 1, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The public is invited to vote in the People’s Choice Award category with the winner announced at the close of the viewing.

“It is wonderful to be able to host our Juried Art Show in person once again”, said Moore. “We invite everyone to attend but are requesting that masks be worn given the close proximity in the hall.”

The Juried Art show is sponsored by the Manitoba Arts Council, Lasting Image, Janzen’s Paint & Decorating, and Brad, Carla Milne and family on behalf of MNP.
