2017 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and the Army Cadet League of Canada Manitoba Division is working on having 100 cadets from across the province make the trek to Europe to commemorate the occasion.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge took place during World War I, and is considered one of the most important points in Canadian history because it was Canadian troops who ultimately took the ridge back from the Germans after several previous attempts by the French and British failed.

Reporter Cory Knutt spoke with Rod Klinck, Treasurer of the Army Cadet League of Canada Manitoba Division, about the trip and the fundraising cadets are doing to get there.

Rod also shared the importance of taking Cadets to Vimy Ridge, and why all Canadians should take note of the Centennial next year.

Cadets who want to go on the trip to Vimy Ridge need to raise $3,500 each, and will be holding events throughout the province over the next year to reach that total.
