‘Celebrate Manitoba 150’ continues this summer with a unique Inuit touring art display coming to the Westman region.

Tour 150 Art Exhibit is travelling across the province to celebrate the new Inuit art centre, Qaumajuq, at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

A custom retrofitted tour vehicle, named Nakatamaakewin (a Michif name meaning ‘to leave something behind’) will feature the artwork of local Inuit artist Kailey Sheppard on the outside of the van.

Westoba Credit Union Marketing & Community Relations Specialist, Karen Burton, says Westoba is thrilled to be a platinum sponsor for this exhibit. “This is a combined effort of all the credit unions and whenever there is an opportunity to partner with our fellow credit unions, we just love to do it.”

The touring van will be bringing the culturally rich and diverse display of art to 4 communities in western Manitoba during their summer tour across the province.

To date, the touring gallery is visiting the following communities, and is hosted by Westoba Credit Union:

The Pas – Thursday, July 29th ~ 12 pm-4 pm

Brandon Kirkaldy Branch – Tuesday, August 10th  ~ 3 pm-7 pm

Rivers – Thursday, August 12th  ~ 3 pm -7 pm

La Riviere – Thursday, August 26th ~ 3 pm -7 pm

“I always think back to when I was in school and we would have these travelling caravans show up and how exciting it was to go in and visit and see what’s inside the van,” adds Burton.  “We’re so glad to be a part of this!”

“We’re very fortunate to have the four visits from the Tour 150 Exhibit,” she says. “This initiative has adjusted so many times over the past year and a half due to health regulations, so I think it’s a real insight that things are coming back to normal and we’re allowed to have an event.”
