Monday on the Morning Show we remembered the people of Nepal as we checked in with Mennonite Central Committee Canada (MCC), and received an update on the relief work it's been engaged in since a massive earthquake struck the country April 25th, 2016.

Jamuna Chepang (18), and her baby boy Jibesh Chepang (16 months) received winterization supplies from the MCC partner Sansthagat Bikas Sanjal (Sanjal), in December of 2015. Tarps, blankets, jackets and other materials were distributed to households in Dhading District, where people are living in temporary shelters.

It's been a tragic and difficult year for many in Nepal in the aftermath of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, and the hundreds of aftershocks that followed. There was extensive damage across the country, with more than 8,000 people killed and close to 900,000 homes destroyed or damaged. MCC's response is ongoing, and will continue to be.

Disaster Response Director Bruce Guenther joined us to share details on some of the key projects MCC has been involved in over the past 12 months.

Bruce also shared MCC's relief response will be long-term, several years in fact, and will focus on rebuilding efforts.

After receiving winterization materials, Rama Chepang of Bhasbhase village in Dhading district, Nepal, hikes back up the mountain to her home. About 30 households received winterization supplies from the MCC partner Sansthagat Bikas Sanjal (Sanjal), in December of 2015. Tarps, blankets, jackets and other materials were distributed to households in Dhading District, where people are living in temporary shelters.
