CWB chair Allen Oberg

There will be no change when it comes to farmers' electing single-desk supporters to the Canadian Wheat Board Board of Directors.

Four out of five representatives chosen in the CWB director elections are advocates of the board's current marketing structure. Of the 10 farmer-elected board representatives, 8 are single desk supporters.

"I was happy to see in the areas where there were no incumbents that farmers chose to support candidates who are supportive of the single desk," says CWB chair Allen Oberg, who was re-elected in District 5. "And that's what in line with what our producer survey shows, that the majority of farmers, although the Wheat Board is not perfect, support the idea of the Board and single desk marketing."

He notes he was pleased with the voter participation.

"I was happy with the voter turnout. Anytime with a mail-in ballot that you get over 40 percent is very respectable," he says. Voter turnout was 41.3 percent, down from 52.8 percent in the 2008 director elections.

The first meeting for the new board of directors will take place at the end of January.
