Westman resident, Bill Warren, was one of 80 recipients to receive a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal this past week at a special awards ceremony in Brandon.

Warren resides in the community of Pierson but has a lengthy history of supporting the communities he has lived in through his volunteering efforts.

"It all started in Melita," explains Warren.  "I was on several committee there, and after I moved to Pierson 9 years ago, I just continued that, and even formed other committees that could be used there.  I'm on at least 10 committees yet!"

Canada celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, marking her 70th anniversary on the Throne since Feb 6, 1952. Queen Elizabeth was Canada’s longest reigning Sovereign and the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee.

"I'm very excited to be getting this medal, it really means a lot!  I enjoy community involvement and volunteering in the community," shares Warren.  "So, this is a really nice award to receive for doing that service."

A total of 1,000 medals are being awarded across the province.
