Over 600 vehicles have been stopped by the RCMP this week, the first in it's Holiday Check Stop program.

A total of 8 drivers were arrested for impaired driving, as well as a numerous 24 hour suspensions issued along with various highway traffic act charges including failure to wear seatbelts.

There was one fatal motor vehicle collision where alcohol is considered to be a factor.

The check stop program will continue throughout the holiday season to the beginning of January.

The RCMP reminds motorists that impaired driving is preventable and encourages us to find an alternate means of getting home if alcohol has been consumed.
