The following is the RCMP report to August 29, 2023.  This reporting period, police responded to the following calls for service.

 

- 12 traffic violations

- 14 provincial statute (Mental Health Act, Fire Prevention Act, Coroner's Act, 911 Act)

- 9 common police activities (alarms, suspicious persons/vehicles, assistance to general public)

- 16 crimes against property

- 7 other criminal code

- 6 crimes against persons

- 1 traffic accident

- 3 drug enforcement investigations

 

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Just a reminder that RCMP DO NOT do child abuse and adult abuse registry checks.  RCMP is responsible for criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks.  You require a vulnerable sector check if you are in a position of trust. You must present to the detachment when applying for a vulnerable sector check. 

Position of Trust means a paid or voluntary position dealing with vulnerable people. Vulnerable people may include children, youth, the elderly, people with physical, developmental, emotional, social, or other disabilities, people who are addicted or dependent on addictive substances, and people who have been the victim of a crime or an accident.

Applicants who require a Vulnerable Sector Check from their organization must present themselves in person and provide written consent in order for the checks to be conducted.

Proper identification must be produced and recorded on the application: a government issued photo identification for the Primary Document, and a secondary document which verifies the Primary identification.

YOUTH CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

Criminal record checks cannot be done on youth unless working in Government. It has been established that non-provincially or municipally run summer camps and pools, public/private schools including colleges/universities are not government employers.

 

August 15, 2023

Police received a report of a male in Boissevain who was wanted on a warrant. The matter was unfounded.

Police received a report of harassment in Ninette. There was insufficient evidence to proceed, and the complainant was given information on how to get a protection order.

 

August 16, 2023

Police received a report of a break and enter in Ninette. The complainant had a suspect in mind but no evidence to support this.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Boissevain following the complainant and driving by the residence. Police located the vehicle and warned the driver.

 

August 17, 2023

Police received a report of a trail being made in the RM of Argyle without permission. Matter is under investigation.

RCMP received a trespassing and theft complaint in Baldur. Police followed up with the complainant. A suspect name was given to police but no evidence.

RCMP were dispatched for an overdue aircraft. Canadian Coast Guard reported an American aircraft was supposed to land at Deloraine Airport. The aircraft was located safe at the Boissevain airport. 

RCMP received a report from an anonymous caller stating there were five suspicious persons at the Killarney Beach. Subjects left in a grey Dodge Caravan. Police patrolled Killarney and located the vehicle. One male had several warrants and was breaching his court conditions. He was arrested and remanded into custody.  

 

August 18, 2023

Police received a report of disturbing the peace in Boissevain. The complainant requested no further action be taken. Reported for information.

RCMP were dispatched to a suspicious person/vehicle/activity last night on property in Minto. Police were advised a 25-30 year old woman and her 10-12 year old son attended the property to see "what an abandoned building looked like", however, same was not abandoned. The female gave a name and advised where she lived. It was unknown who the suspects were. Reported for information.

Police received a report of theft in Baldur. Police located the suspect and advised they were banned from the location. The suspect was apologetic and advised they would pay back the complainant.

Police assisted ambulance with a medical call in Killarney.

Police received a report of uttering threats in Killarney. The matter was unfounded.

 

August 19, 2023

Police received a report of a vehicle that didn't stop at the Port of Entry into Canada. Police located the vehicle and the driver advised they didn't know they had to stop. The vehicle was escorted back to the border.

Police assisted with a matter under the Family Law Act in Ninette.

Police received a report of an assault in Killarney. The matter is under investigation.

Police assisted with a matter under the Mental Health Act in Belmont.

 

August 20, 2023

911 report of a single vehicle collision on highway 450, air bags deployed, no occupants inside the vehicle. No smoke, no fluids. Fire was dispatched and ambulance. It was believed ambulance had picked up a male near that location.  Fire confirmed no persons inside vehicle or around. The following morning police called Deloraine Hospital and the driver of the vehicle was identified. The male was injured but in stable condition at Deloraine Hospital. Police followed up with the driver in person at hospital.

 

August 21, 2023

Police received a report of uttering threats in Boissevain. Police advised the complainant that the complaint did not meet the threshold for a charge.

Police received a report kids throwing stones into the ditches in the Ninette.  On going problem.  5-6 kids all under 15 years.  The complainant said that people have been doing this all summer and it is disruptive.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle stopped near some corn fields in the RM of Grassland. The vehicle was a black Jeep Liberty or Cherokee, no plates on front or back.  Male driver and the complainant noticed tracks going into the nuisance grounds, which wasn't open.

Police received a 911 call to a report of a gas can accidentally lit on fire and the caller kicked it into the lake. Fire was not dispatched as the fire was out. The caller was contacted and confirmed they removed the gas can from the lake.

Police received a report of 3 youth harassing another youth in Killarney. The caller was advised that people calling them names was not against the law, but a Peace Bond might be an option going further. The caller was advised a file was created for this incident and the vehicle was added to the file that they youth were driving. Information on obtaining a Peace Bond was given.

 

August 22, 2023

Police received a report of a suspicious person on Aberdeen in Boissevain. The complainant called back 20 minutes later and advised it was people doing yard work.

 

August 23, 2023

RCMP received a dispatch to a single motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Highway 21 and 3. The lone male occupant was extracted from the vehicle and transported to the Deloraine Hospital with unknown injuries. He was later life flighted to Health Science Centre in Winnipeg.

Police received a report of an abandoned boat and trailer in Baldur. The matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of someone that had witnessed a white SUV pull up to the intersection on Finlay Street in Killarney and steal 2 traffic control cones. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of an assault in Boissevain. The victim declined to press charges.

 

August 24, 2023

RCMP received a report of a car on fire on the side of the #23 Highway at Junction 346. Ambulance and Fire were dispatched. Police also attended and it was learned that the fire was a result of arson. The matter is under investigation.

Police were dispatched through 911 to a report of an assault. Police attended and took statements. A male was arrested and lodged. He was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief, assault while choking, sex assault and forcible confinement. He was later released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

Police responded to a 911 hangup in Killarney. An intoxicated male was located. A sober adult was at the residence as well. Police verbally warned the intoxicated male.

Police received a report of a loud argument in Boissevain. Police attended, no signs of assault.

 

August 25, 2023

Police assisted with a matter under the Mental Health Act in Deloraine.

Police received a 911 call of an assault in progress in Belmont. Police attended, located a male in the residence and arrested him for assault. He was transported to Killarney Detachment to be released on conditions when sober. He will appear in court at a later date.

 

August 26, 2023

Police assisted with a matter under the Child Welfare Act in Boissevain.

 

August 27, 2023

Police received a report of an assault in Killarney. Police attended and arrested a male. He was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.

 

August 28, 2023

Police received a report of an erratic driver near Boissevain. Dash cam footage was given to police and the company was warned and will speak with their driver.

Police were dispatched to a fire in the RM of Grassland. The fire was put out with minimal damages and was not suspicious.

Police received a report of a break and enter in Ninette that occurred in April. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of a youth on a quad without a helmet in Killarney. Patrols were made but the quad was not located. The caller was advised to call when the offence is happening.

Police received a report of utter threats in Killarney. The matter was unfounded.

 

Reminder:  It is important to report ALL thefts, stolen or lost property to police in a timely fashion so that it can be followed up on by police.
