Souris Mayor Daryl Jackson

Communities along the Souris River are waiting to see what impact the latest rainfall will have on their towns.

Daryl Jackson is the Mayor of Souris. He says while some areas haven't received significant amounts of rain over the past 24 hours the river is expected to rise anyways.

Jackson says people from 23 homes were evacuated late last week. It could be late June before they are allowed to return.

Those home owners are being allowed back in to check sump pumps and their property on a regular basis.
