Two Southwest Cougars were selected in the 2021 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. Defenseman Josh Fluker of Boissevain was chosen by the Swift Current Broncos seventh overall in round one and forward Luke Mackenzie of Pipestone went to the Kelowna Rockets in round eight. The first Manitoban selected was forward Clarke Caswell of Brandon who went sixth overall to Swift Current.


The Westman Wildcats lost 4-1 to EDGE School at the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Female U18 AAA Hockey Tournament in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. Emma Ramsey scored the lone goal for the Wildcats who will play their final two round robin games today against the Regina Rebels and Lloydminster Steelers.


Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves and Kyle Connor scored twice in the third period as the Winnipeg Jets shutout the Seattle Kraken 3-0 at Climate Pledge Arena. Dominic Toninato scored his third goal of the season 5:24 into the first period for the Jets (13-9-4) who have won three of their last four games. It was Hellebuyck's first shutout of the season and 25th of his career. 


Kim Link has a 5-3 record in the Championship Pool at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie. Link lost 10-9 to Cheryl Bernard of Alberta and beat Rhonda Horte of Yukon 7-3. Link will play her final two games today against Sherri Middaugh of Ontario and Theresa Breen of Nova Scotia. 


The CFL Awards will be handed out tonight in Hamilton. Four Winnipeg Blue Bombers are up for awards and they include quarterback Zach Collaros for the Most Outstanding Player award; linebacker Adam Bighill for Outstanding Defensive Player and Stanley Bryant for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. Mike O'Shea is in the running for Coach of the Year honours.
