Zach Edmunds scored twice and Griffin Albrecht made 17 saves as Boissevain/Souris doubled up on Deloraine/Hartney 4-2 in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game. Hunter Arde and Jackson Kohut also scored for the Broncos. Daeclan Van Mackelbergh and Ashton Currah replied for the Colts. 


The Winnipeg Jets losing streak has reached six games. J.T. Miller had three goals and an assist as the Vancouver Canucks downed Winnipeg 5-1 Thursday night at Canada Life Centre. Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson also scored for the Canucks. Vancouver netminder Spencer Martin stopped 33 shots in recording his first NHL win. Andrew Copp had the lone goal for the Jets. Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves. The Jets (17-16-7) next game is Saturday afternoon in St. Louis against the Blues. 


The 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins tonight in Thunder Bay. Tracy Fleury of the East St. Paul Curling Club, who qualified for the Scotties as a wildcard team, will meet Andrea Crawford of New Brunswick on the opening draw at 6 p.m. Manitoba champion Mackenzie Zacharias of the Altona Curling Club will face Mary-Anne Arsenault of BC and reigning Canadian champion Kerri Einarson of the Gimli Curling Club will take on Hollie Duncan of Ontario Saturday at 1 p.m.


Dennis Thiessen of Crystal City has been named to Canada’s wheelchair curling team for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. It will be Thiessen's third trip to the Olympics. He took home the gold medal in Sochi in 2014 and  bronze in PyeongChang in 2018. Joining Thiessen on Canada’s wheelchair curling team is Mark Ideson of London, Ina Forrest of Spallumcheen, BC, Collinda Joseph of Ottawa and Jon Thurston of Dunsford, Ontario. The team was announced Thursday by the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Curling Canada.


The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference membership has decided to resume the 2021-22 basketball and volleyball season on January 28th. Both leagues were paused after the holiday break and will have first conference play since the start of December 2021. As COVID-19 continues to have an impact on the community, there will not be spectators for MCAC games for at least the next two weeks and games are available via live web streams. The first volleyball games of the new year are tonight with Assiniboine Community College Cougars hosting Providence University College Pilots and Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges at home against Canadian Mennonite University Blazers In basketball, the Pilots host the Rouges also tonight.
