Kyle Graham had a goal and two assists as the Swan Valley Tigers downed Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 7-1 in game one of the Westman High School Hockey League's best-of-three consolation final. Tanner Mervyn had the lone goal for the Huskies. Game two goes tonight (8:30 p.m.) in Hamiota. 

 

The Westman Wildcats face the Winnipeg Ice tonight (7:30 p.m.) in Hartney in game one of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League's best-of-five final. The Wildcats eliminated the Yellowhead Chiefs three game to one in the semifinals while the Ice knocked off the first place Winnipeg Avros in five games. Westman wook three of four from the Ice during the regular season schedule. 

 

The Virden Oil Capitals begin their Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoff run tonight (7:30 p.m.) when they face the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo. The Oil Capitals and Wolverines split their eight-game regular season series with each team winning four times. 

 

The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 5-2 decision to Ottawa at Canada Life Centre. Brady Tkachuk had a pair of goals for the Senators. Josh Morrissey and Kyle Connor with his 40th of the season did the goal scoring for the Jets who host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. St. Malo's Travis Hamonic, who was making his Senators debut after being acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, played in his 700th NHL game.

 

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed a pair of American players in wide receiver Antonio Nunn and defensive back Donald Rutledge, Jr. Nunn joins the Blue Bombers after a solid college career with the University of Buffalo. The Tampa native attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. Nunn finished his UB days with a solid senior season in 2020, leading the team with 37 passes for 584 yards and two touchdowns in seven games in a pandemic-shortened year. Those statistics earned him a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. Rutledge, Jr. comes to the Blue Bombers after attending training camps with both the Indianapolis Colts (2020) and Arizona Cardinals (2021). Rutledge, Jr. began his collegiate career at The Citadel, spending his 2015-16 season as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Savannah State, where he spent the next three years playing safety. He spent his senior season at Georgia Southern after transferring, and started nine games, registering 50 tackles, five pass break-ups and an interception.

 

The round robin ends today at the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship in Prince George. Kerri Einarson will face Daniela Jentsch of Germany at 11 a.m., and Alzbeta Baudysova of the Czech Republic at 9 p.m. Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland  and Anna Hasselborg of Sweden have clinched playoff spots. Tirinzoni is 10-0 while Hasselborg is 8-3. Einarson and EunJung Kim of Korea are 7-3.
