The Killarney Shamrocks, Wawanesa Jets, MacGregor Wild, Carberry Plainsmen and Gladstone Lakers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Isaac Friesen and Colten Miller each had a goal and two assists as the Shamrocks downed the Deloraine Royals 6-1; Ethan Lockhart had two goals and an assists as the Jets beat the Souris Elks 5-3; Braden Nicoll scored with five seconds left in regulation to lift the Wild past the Melita Bisons 4-3; Landon Desjardin scored twice as the Plainsmen doubled up on the Pilot Mound Pilots 6-5 and Connor Grunsten had three goals and two helpers as the Lakers beat the Neepawa Farmers 10-3.


10 teams were on the ice Friday night in the Westman High School Hockey League. Connor Martin had five goals and three assists as Killarney/Wawanesa blanked Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 15-0; Colby Asselstine had two goals and four helpers as Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn downed Sandy Bay 10-2; Gavin Pomeroy made 32 saves as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair beat Minnedosa/Erickson 5-3; Xander Mecas had two goals and six assists as Major Pratt defeated Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Hartney 11-0 and Julien Lopez had a hat trick as the Dauphin Clippers slipped past Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada 6-5.


The Southwest Cougars gave up four power play goals and lost 7-1 to the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League leading Wheat Kings in Brandon. Tyson Draper had the lone goal for the Cougars.


Reese Schutte scored twice and Danica Averill made 25 saves as the Westman Wildcats beat the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-1 in Hartney. Karlyn Gudz and Ivy Perkin also scored for the Wildcats who have three games left and trail the Manitoba Female U18 Hockey League leading Winnipeg Ice by four points. The defending champion Ice have four games remaining. Westman is also two points ahead of the third place Chiefs.


Brett Hyland scored twice on the power play and Carson Bjarnason made 39 saves as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Red Deer Rebels 4-1 at Westoba Place. Roger McQueen with his 20th of the season and Matteo Michels also scored for the Wheat Kings.


The Winnipeg Jets acquired forward Sean Monahan from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft and a conditional third-round pick in 2027. Monahan, a pending unrestricted free agent, has 13 goals and 35 points in 49 games with the Habs this season.


The Manitoba Moose gave up five unanswered goals and lost 5-2 to the Milwaukee Admirals. Nicholas Jones and Kristian Reichel did the goal scoring for the Moose who led 2-0 midway through the second period.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with defensive tackle Jake Thomas. The New Brunswick native returns to the Bombers for a 12th CFL season – all in Winnipeg. Selected in the fourth round of the 2012 CFL draft, Thomas is the longest serving player on the football club, having suited up for 186 regular season games and the last four Grey Cups. Thomas is a two-time Grey Cup winner as part of the Blue Bombers championship teams in 2019 and 2021.
