Goaltender Grace Glover of Boissevain, defenseman Hallie Franklin of Deloraine and forwards Paige Kozak of Souris and Callie Rice of Brandon have been named to Team Manitoba’s female U-18 hockey roster for the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Fredericton from February 26th-March 5th. Goaltender Burke Hood, defenseman Kaeson Fisher and forwards Easton Odut, Cole Temple and Colten Worthington of Brandon along with forward Jack Clark of Wawanesa have been named to Team Manitoba’s male U-16 hockey roster. The male hockey competition will be held from February 18th-26th in PEI.


In the Westman High School Hockey League - Carson Nakonechny scored twice as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur edged Minnedosa/Erickson 4-3; Thomas Swereda had a hat trick as Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn bounced Sandy Bay 13-2; Drayson Sheridan had three assists as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair downed Virden 4-1 and Branigan Ferland had two goals and three assists inVincent Massey’s 7-3 victory over Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains.


The Southwest Cougars dropped a 6-5 decision to the Winnipeg Thrashers. Dawson Andries and Nicholas Cullen had two goals each for the Cougars. Sebastian Stone had the other Southwest goal. Ekam Dhaliwal scored the only goal of the game as the Brandon Wheat Kings blanked the defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Winnipeg Wild 1-0. KC Couckuyt made 23 saves for the first place Wheat Kings who have reeled off 14 straight wins to start the season.


Brett Hyland, Nolan Ritchie and Jake Chiasson all scored in the shootout as the Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up their four-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. Nate Danielson and Andrei Malyavin scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings who begin a five-game road trip Saturday when they meet the Western Hockey League’s East Division leading Ice in Winnipeg.
