The Boissevain Border Kings and Neepawa Farmers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Skylar Canada and Jagger Thomas scored two goals each as the Border Kings downed the Wawanesa Jets 7-2. Nathan Flodell, Dallas Foote and David Robertson also scored for Boissevain. Ethan Lockhart and Mike Reykdal replied for the Jets. Dillon Birch scored twice as Neepawa held on for a 4-3 victory over Souris. Benoit Mowbray and Brad Marshall also scored for the Farmers who lead 4-0 with seven minutes left in the third period. Ben Williams had a pair of goals for the Elks. Johnny Williams had the other Souris goal.


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Brady Burghart scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 8:01 left as the Swan Valley Tigers shaded the Vincent Massey Vikings 3-2. Carson Smith, William Janz and Ethan King scored two goals each as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair bounced Sandy Bay 12-2. Jaden Trotz had three goals and two assists as Minnedosa/Erickson beat Virden 7-1. Liam Chartrand scored the go-ahead goal with 6:32 remaining in the third period as Dauphin slipped past Killarney/Wawanesa 2-1.


The Brandon Wheat Kings gave up three goals in the first period and three more in the second and lost 6-1 to the Pats in Regina. Quinn Mantei had the lone goal for the Wheat Kings.


Kerri Einarson lost 8-7 in an extra end to Tabitha Peterson of the United States in the women’s bronze medal game at the 2023 Pan Continental Championships at the Kelowna Curling Club. Brad Gusue will face Jongduk Park of South Korea in the men’s gold medal game.


The Canadian Women’s National Softball Team will face Mexico in the bronze medal game at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Canada lost 8-3 to the United States Friday and finished the Super Round with a 1 and 2 record. The Americans will meet Puerto Rico in the gold medal game. Canadian athletes have won 139 medals including 40 gold, 44 silver and 55 bronze.
