The Winnipeg Blue Bombers can clinch first place in the CFL’s West Division today. The Blue Bombers (13-2) face the Edmonton Elks (6 p.m.) at IG Field. Winnipeg will clinch a bye to the division final with a win over the Elks and the second place B.C. Lions (10-4) lose today to the Argonauts in Toronto.


Hayley Kolosky scored in overtime to lift the defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Westman Wildcats past the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-3 in Shoal Lake. Paige Kozak had a pair of goals in regulation for the Wildcats while Haley Blaine had the other. Westman goaltender Grace Glover made 16 saves.


The Southwest Cougars lost their home opener 4-3 in overtime to the Winnipeg Bruins in Souris. Jayce Thompson, Nate Robson and Brett Laing scored in regulation for the Cougars who lead 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after 40 minutes. Southwest netminder Evan Svoboda stopped 24 shots.


Nolan Chastko scored the only goal of the shootout as Virden rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Ethan Guthrie scored his first of the season with 65 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 and Dean Gorchynski’s power play goal with 2:36 remaining in regulation knotted the score at 2-2.


The Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up their season opening four-game homestand with a 5-3 loss to the Saskatoon Blades. Jake Chiasson had a pair of goals for Brandon while Nolan Ritchie chipped in with three assists. The Wheat Kings begin a season high eight-game road trip on Thanksgiving Monday when they face the Hitmen in Calgary. Daniel Hauser made 21 saves and Ty Nash and Owen Pederson each had a goal and an assist as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Pats 5-2 in Regina. The Ice are 5-0 on their season opening 13-game road trip.


Pierre-Luc Dubois scored twice as the Winnipeg Jets wrapped up their pre-season schedule with a 5-3 victory over the Flames in Calgary. Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele also scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves in net for the Jets who open the 2022-23 NHL regular season schedule next Friday at home against the New York Rangers.


The Toronto Blue Jays season is on the line today (3:07 p.m.) at Rogers Centre. Cal Raleigh’s two-run homer off Jays starter Alek Manoah highlighted the Mariners three-run first inning as Seattle shutdown Toronto 4-0 in game one of their best-of-three American League Wild Card Series. Mariners starter Luis Castillo scattered six hits and allowed no runs over seven-and-a-third innings of work. Matt Chapman and George Springer had two hits each for the Jays who will send Kevin Gausman to the mound in game two.
