The Boissevain/Wawanesa Broncos are Provincial High School Baseball champions. Boissevain/Wawanesa defeated the Garden Valley Zodiacs 11-2 in the final Saturday afternoon in Reston. Bryan Laing of the Broncos was named the Tournament MVP.


The Zone 9 champion Virden Bears fell 9-2 to the Vincent Massey Trojans in the final of the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Portage. The Bears beat St. Joachim/Real Berard 3-2 in the quarterfinals and then downed Prairie Mountain 8-3 in the semifinals. Boissevain’s Danika Nell of the Trojans was named the Tournament MVP.


The Glenlawn Lions and Balmoral Hall Blazers captured the Provincial AAAA High School Soccer championships Saturday in Winkler. The Lions defeated Steinbach Regional 2-0 in the boy’s final. The Blazers shaded Leo Remillard 2-1 in the girl’s final.


Derek McGregor and Chris Hendrickson each had three rbi as the Wawanesa Brewers outscored the Elkhorn Expos 7-6 in the lone South West Baseball League game Saturday night. Avery Kirkup picked up the win for the Brewers.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up 17 hits and lost 11-7 to the Lincoln Saltdogs. Miles Simington homered twice for the Fish.


The finals of the Manitoba Match Play Championships will take place Sunday at the Breezy Bend Country Club. Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst will face Thomas Scott of Dauphin in the men’s final. Addison Kartusch of St. Charles will meet Jeri Lafleche of Niakwa in the women’s final while Rob Oliphant of Rossmere will take on Jay Doyle of Niakwa in the senior men’s final. Trstenjak, Kartusch and Oliphant are the #1 seeds. Trstenjak defeated Evan Nachigall of Shilo 1up in the men’s semifinal. Kartusch beat Cala Korman of Killarney 1up in the women’s semifinal.
