The ACC Cougars are ACHA Women’s D2 National champions for the second time. Carman’s Simone Turner-Commer and Alecia Simpson of Wawanesa did the goal scoring and goaltender Megan Beswitherick of Austin got the win as Brandon’s Assiniboine Community College defeated Dakota College-Bottineau 2-1 in the championship game Saturday in St. Louis. Turner-Commer was named the tournament MVP.

 

The Minnedosa Bombers and Gladstone Lakers are going the distance in the Tiger Hills Hockey League’s East Division final. Jory Geddes, Sean Kubas and Derek Walker did the goal scoring as the Lakers beat Minnedosa 3-1. The best-of-five series is tied at two games a piece. James McCarville had the lone goal for the hometown Bombers. Game five goes today (6:30 p.m.) in Gladstone.

 

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoff pairings are set. The Virden Oil Capitals face the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, the Dauphin Kings take on the Swan Valley Stampeders, the Winkler Flyers meet the Winnipeg Blues and the Steinbach Pistons face the Selkirk Steelers in round one.

 

The Swan Valley Tigers have advanced to the Westman High School Hockey League’s consolation final. Taven Boychuk had a goal and an assist as the Tigers downed the Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson Renegades 3-1 and swept the best-of-three semifinal in two straight. Shane Hutchings and Zane Dyck scored two goals each as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair beat the Boissevain/Souris Broncos 6-4. That series is tied at a game a piece and the deciding third game goes today (1 p.m.) in Boissevain.

 

The Westman Wildcats will meet the Winnipeg Ice in the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League final. The Ice defeated the Winnipeg Avros 5-3 in the fifth and deciding game of their semifinal. The Wildcats eliminated the Yellowhead Chiefs three games to one in their second round series. The best-of-five final begins Friday in Hartney.

 

The Brandon Wheat Kings losing streak has reached six games. Daniel Hauser stopped 19 shots and Skyler Bruce had two goals and an assist as the Winnipeg Ice shutout Brandon 5-0 at Westoba Place. Carson Lambos, Chase Wheatcroft and Jack Finley also scored the Ice.

 

The Manitoba Moose point-streak has reached a season high eight games. Cole Maier had a goal and an assist as Manitoba downed the Iowa Wild 5-2. Simon Lundmark, Nicholas Jones, Bobby Lynch and Mikey Eyssimont also scored for the Moose. Manitoba netminder Evan Cormier made 27 saves.
