The top three seeds are undefeated heading into day two of the 2024 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Access Event Centre in Morden. Number one Kaitlyn Lawes of Fort Rouge, second seed Kate Cameron of the Granite and number three Jolene Campbell of Assiniboine Memorial are 2-0 after the first four draws.


The Winnipeg Jets wrapped up their three-game road trip Wednesday night in Toronto. Auston Matthews with 47 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Maple Leafs past Winnipeg 1-0. Ilya Samsonov made 32 saves in recording the shutout. Jets netminder Laurent Brossoit stopped 29 shots. Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey left the game late in the first period with a lower-body injury after blocking a shot from Matthew Knies and did not return. 


The Manitoba Moose fell 2-1 to the Chicago Wolves at Canada Life Centre. Kristian Reichel scored the lone goal for the Moose who have lost 10 in a row. 


Montreal and Boston were winners in the Professional Women's Hockey League. Elaine Chuli made 45 saves as Montreal shaded Minnesota 2-1 in St. Paul. Theresa Schafzahl scored the go-ahead goal with 52 seconds left to lift Boston past Ottawa 3-2. 


The Ottawa Redblacks signed quarterback Dru Brown to a two-year contract. The CFL club acquired Brown's rights last week from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for a 2024 fifth-round draft pick. Brown spent three seasons with the Blue Bombers and won both of his starts last season after starter Zach Collaros was injured.
