Boissevain's Danika Nell, who will be graduating from Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg next week, along with Griffin Carnelley of Carman, Kaiden Dyck of Miami and Raylyn Koshowski of Dauphin are the winners of the 2023-24 Manitoba’s Credit Unions High School Scholar Athlete Awards. These $2,000 scholarships are awarded to four graduating high school student athletes who maintained a minimum 85% average and competed in at least two interscholastic sports. Other criteria included school, community, volunteer, and citizenship activities.

The top two teams in the South West Baseball League met Wednesday night in Reston. The Boissevain Centennials plated three runs in the third and seventh innings en route to a 10-0 victory over the Rockets.  Austin Clyne had three hits and Drew Hilhorst drilled a solo home run for the defending champion Centennials who improved to 9-1 on the season. Zane Sawyer got the win. He went the distance and allowed just four hits and struck out nine. John Patmore had two of Reston's four hits. The Rockets are 6-2 and tied with the Rivers Comets for second place.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 6-3 decision to the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Former Winnipeg first baseman Jacob Bockelie hit a ball to centre field that Miles Simington lost in the sun and the ball dropped in for a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the top of the third inning. That gave the RailCats a 6-2 lead. With two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, Goldeyes right fielder Max Murphy drove a ball deep to right field that Gary's Chad Smith caught with his back against the wall to end the ballgame.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Andrew Wiggins and Jamal Murray will lead the Canadian men's basketball team at the Paris Olympics in July. The three NBA stars were named to Canada Basketball's 20-player roster ahead of an Olympic training camp that starts next week in Toronto. Canada is coming off a win over the United States in the bronze-medal game at last year's FIBA World Cup.
