Tyler Lewis had two goals and two assists as the Boissevain Border Kings defeated the Virden Oil Kings 8-3 in game one of the Tiger Hills Hockey League's West Division final. Zeanan Ziemer, Kirklan Lycar, Devon LeBlanc, Rylee Zimmer, Dustin Fisher and Josh Elmes also scored for the Border Kings who lead 4-0 after the first period and 4-1 after 40 minutes. Drake Bodie, Tanner Koroscil and Tanner Lewis replied for the Oil Kings. Game two in the best-of-five series goes Saturday in Virden. The Gladstone Lakers host the Minnedosa Bombers Friday night in game one of the East Division final. 
 


Westman High School Hockey League  -  Zane Dyck had a hat trick as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair downed Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn 4-1 in game one of their best-of-three Consolation quarterfinal. Colt Brooks also scored for the Huskies. Nathaniel Bray had the lone goal for the Falcons.
 


Virden Oil Capitals forward Braden Fischer is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League 1st Team All-Star. Oil Capitals forward Carson Buydens is a Rookie Team All-Star. Earlier this week Fischer was named the MJHL's Most Valuable Player and Buydens received the Rookie of the Year award.
 


Nolan Ritchie scored 71 seconds into overtime to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Calgary Hitmen 2-1 at Westoba Place. Rylen Roersma had the lone Wheat Kings goal in regulation. Vincent Iorio assisted on both goals. Brandon netminder Carson Bjarnason made 32 saves. 
 


Canada’s Wheelchair Curling team has qualified for the semifinals at the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing. Mark Ideson, Ina Forrest, Jon Thurston and Manitoban Dennis Thiessen defeated Norway 7-6 and finished the round robin with a 7-3 record. Canada’s Paralympic Hockey Team will face Korea (10:05 p.m.) in the semifinals. Canada defeated Korea 6-0 in its final preliminary round game. Canadian athletes have won 16 medals in Beijing including seven gold, two silver and seven bronze.
