Jack Swaenepoel of Souris and Nolan Saunderson, Graydon Taylor, Jaxon Jacobson, Jonah Lemoine and Cole Lobreau of Brandon were named to Hockey Manitoba's 2023 Male Under-16 Program of Excellence Top-40 Camp which will be held from May 11th-14th in Brandon. This camp will be the second phase of the Hockey Manitoba Male U16 Program of Excellence which is the provincial high performance development and selection program that leads to the formation of U16 Team Manitoba. The final U16 Team Manitoba roster will compete at the 2023 WHL Cup which is scheduled to take place in late October in Alberta.


The Virden Oil Capitals meet the Steinbach Pistons tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in game three of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final for the Turnbull Cup. The Pistons lead the series two games to none after beating the Caps 4-0 and 3-0 this past weekend in Steinbach. 


The Winnipeg Ice face the Saskatoon Blades Friday night at the Wayne Fleming Arena in game one of the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference final. Conner Roulette had two goals and an assist as the Blades defeated the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 in the deciding seventh game of their second round series Tuesday night in Saskatoon. The Ice eliminated the Moose Jaw Warriors in six games in their conference semifinal. The Kamloops Blazers will meet the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Conference final. 


Carberry's Carson Bjarnason made 23 saves and Matthew Wood scored three times as Canada downed the Czech Republic 8-3 and finished the preliminary round with a 3-1 record at the 2023 World U18 Hockey Championship in Porrentruy, Switzerland. Team Canada will meet the host Swiss, the United States will face the Czech Republic, Sweden will take on Latvia and Finland will meet Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Thursday. 


The Winnipeg Jets are hopeful forward Mark Scheifele will able to play in game five of the NHL's Western Conference quarterfinal Thursday in Las Vegas. Scheifele, who traveled with the team to Nevada yesterday, suffered an upper-body injury in the first period of Mondays 4-2 loss to the Golden Knights at Canada Life Centre. Vegas leads the best-of-seven opening round series three games to one. 


Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing have qualified for the playoffs at the 2023 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Gangneung, South Korea. The Canadian champions from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario outscored Hungary’s Linda Joo & Lorinc Tatar 8-7 in an extra-end at the Gangneung Curling Centre. The win improved Canada’s record to 7-1, tied for top spot with Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill, although the Estonians hold the tiebreaker edge based on their win over Canada earlier in the week. Based on Wednesday night’s results, regardless of what happens in the closing draw of Group A round-robin play on Thursday, Canada, Estonia and Scotland’s Jen Dodds & Bruce Mouat will advance to Friday’s playoffs.
