The Daly House Museum in Brandon is ready to launch their Kids Summer Fun Program, offering a range of fun activities for kids throughout July and August.

"One of the events that we are the most excited for is our Dig Day, which is on July 24th," shares Public Programs and Events Assistant, Chloe Diamond. "The kids will get to come in and complete their own archaeological dig.  We are trying to plan something for one of the professors at the university to come in and give a small presentation on fossils, and on how things become fossilized.  And we have a few very cool items to show that day.  And the kids will get to search for fossils, and everything that the kids find they get to keep!"

Indigenous Crafts Day will feature the reading of a children's book written by indigenous author, David A Robertson, from Winnipeg.  "And then kids will be able to make their own totem poles that represent themselves!"

The second week of summer fun will feature a visit from a Bee City Brandon member who will teach the children about the importance of pollinators.  "What pollinators do and how they help the plants that grow," shares Diamond. "And then one of our staff will give a cool presentation on some of the flowers that are growing in our garden, and then the kids will get to make their own seed starter and plant their own seeds."

An old-fashioned wash day marks the third week in July when kids get to see what it took to get those shirts white - and it didn't include an electric washing machine that did all the work!   "This is where the kids get to do laundry the way Victorians did with a metal tub and a washboard.  We have some where you have the metal tub on a rocker, and you rock it back and forth to try and beat the clothes a little bit."
