Shayne Wiebe and Matt MacKay each had a goal and two assists as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-3 on Monday night in front of 5,063 hockey fans at MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

Brenden Walker, Mark Stone, David Toews and Hampus Gustafsson also scored for the Wheat Kings who lead the Western Hockey League's best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal two games to one. Walker and Toews scored powerplay goals while Gustafsson sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with 29 seconds remaining in the third period. Jace Coyle, Cole Grbavac and Alex Theriau replied for the Tigers.

Wheat Kings head coach Kelly McCrimmon talked about game three.

 

Brandon goaltender Liam Liston, who was making his playoff debut, stopped 32 shots. Medicine Hat netminder Deven Dubyk faced 28 shots.

Game four goes Thursday night at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The Wheat Kings have been forced to take their opening round playoff home games to Winnipeg due to the annual Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.
