The Province is asking for your input about their proposed all-in-one Personal Identification Card. Manitoba Public Insurance Spokesperson Brian Smiley outlines the concept.

"We're look at  merging the divers license, photo ID and the health and travel card all into one card called the Personal Identification Card. If they want more information on it, they're certainly welcome to go to the Manitoba Public Insurance website. There's a lot of great information there. And we'll provide even more information about the card, what it's all about, how to get one -- just get their input in terms of moving forward on this project."

Smiley says the Province asked for their help.

"The Personal Identification Card was first introduced by government several  weeks ago. They basically asked us to do the administration, and the research, and go out into the public getting Manitobans' opinion on the card -- what they think of it. Again, it still needs to be approved. So, we're seeking input from the members of the public. The card is, after all, for them."

He adds, "The information card, if its approved, would offer convenient privacy and security by combining people's drivers licenses, photo ID, health and travel cards."

Smiley explains how you can offer your opinion.

"There's a number of ways of gathering the public's input. There's going to be an opportunity for them to go online right at the display and provide comments online. They can also write out a form that's going to be onsite. Manning the booths are going to be senior staff of Manitoba Public Insurance who, again, have been provided with information relating to the Personal Identification Card. It's a great opportunity for Manitobans to learn a little more about this card which, once again, is in the research and development stage."
