With more rain in the forecast for Saskatchewan, reeves in southwest Manitoba are starting to become concerned about where all that water will end up.

Municipality of Two Borders Reeve Debbie McMechan says they are full to the brim with water, and more significant moisture could do some real damage.

She notes some roads have been breached, but nothing serious so far.

McMechan is worried about what might be coming from the west.

“I personally believe that we do experience a lot of water as a result of drainage,” she said. “When I hear that there's been a big rain somewhere, I do worry. There is so much infrastructure in place now that it has a tendency, and we've seen it before, it flushes. We're just not capable yet of handling it.”

Denis Carter, reeve for the RM of Wallace-Woodworth agreed.

“If they're going to get what they're predicting, it certainly would fill up the Assiniboine Basin I'm sure,” he said.

A state of emergency was declared in Estevan, Saskatchewan on Sunday after at least 130 millimetres of rain fell in just over two hours.
