Brandon’s Rob Fowler will represent Manitoba at the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship.

Fowler along with third Allan Lyburn, second Richard Daneault and lead Derek Samagalski defeated Mike McEwen of the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg 10-6 in the final of the 2012 Safeway Championship at Credit Union Place in Dauphin.

It’s Fowler’s fourth trip to the Brier but first as a skip. The third seed played second for Jeff Stoughton when they won the province in 2007, 2009 & 2010. It’s also the second Manitoba men’s championship for the Brandon Curling Club as Rob Fowler’s father Brian won the Tankard in 1987.

CJRB Sports Director Clayton Dreger asked Rob Fowler how it felt to win the 2012 Safeway Championship.

2012 marks the third straight year McEwen, third B.J. Neufeld, second Matt Wozniak and lead Denni Neufeld have lost the provincial men’s final which matches the three that Kerry Burtnyk suffered in 1997, 1998 & 1999.

The 2012 Brier will take place March 3rd – 11th in Saskatoon.
